The NH Comets 16U Fall Team concluded their season this past weekend with a 1st place finish in the NSA Monster Bash Tourney. Haeli Campbell pitched the Comets to the championship with a 6 2/3 inning performance and Katie Kennard picked up the save vs the NE Hurricanes from Salem NH.
In the championship game, a 4-3 victory, Sarah Lavallee triple (1rbi) Tory Hoemke (2 hits), Kaley Patterson, Colleen O'Hara, Deven Goss, Campbell and Kennard all contributed offensively while defensively the Comets had outstanding play from Alex Haskell and a diving catch in left field from Corinne Auger as well as a 2 out strikem out throwem out from catcher Goss to Haskell at third with 2 runners on base in the 6th.
In the semi final game, Lavallee shut down the Hudson Heat on 4 hits in a mercy ruled 6 inning game as the Comets scored 2 in the bottom of the 6th to invoke the 8 run rule after 5 inning rule for the win. Lavallee also led the offense with 2 doubles and 3 rbi. as did Corinne Auger with a triple, double and 2rbi. Also with rbis' were Tory Hoemke, Haeli Campbell, Kaley Patterson and Steph Carl.
In the 3 pool games leading up to single elimination, the Comet bats were apparently still in Newport from the previous weekend as they went 1 win, 0 losses and 2 ties while only scoring 6 runs in the 3 games.
However the pitching of Lavallee, Campbell and Patterson held the opponents to 6 runs in the 3 games combined to put the Comets in the championship as the #2 seed.
In the 1st pool game, Lavallee recorded 14 strikeouts vs the Heat for a 1-1 tie. Against the Hurricanes, Campbell pitched a complete game victory with help by a key triple from Mindy Carl and defensive play by Delanie Pickering.
Kaley Patterson came back from 3 unearned runs in the top of the 1st to pitch the Comets to a 3-3 tie with the Concord Raiders in the 3rd pool play game.
The Comets finished the 2011 season with a 15-2-2 record while gathering hardware for two tourney Championships and two 2nd place finishes.
